Series

"A maximum of seven images per series are shown here. I work with this restriction in order to live up to my own standards of constantly questioning my work. On the other hand, I would like to do my part to stem the flood of images a little. These digital images, which you may be viewing and swiping through on the miniature screen of your smartphone, do not do justice to the originals printed on fine art paper."

Images rémanentes I

"Images rémanentes or afterimages are phantom images. They are shadowy and indistinct, like memories. I use this term in the broadest sense; remembered landscapes are also afterimages that defy localization and, over time, come to represent something for which there is no longer a concrete equivalent, yet which, curiously, is still perceived as true.

The strong signal color red in the first works shown here diminishes until black takes over and the afterimages, like memories, darken or are erased. I conceive of these works cyclically: in the darkness, the landscape changes until a new landscape encounters a bright light for milliseconds and transitions into the next sequence of afterimages.

All the images are based on photographs. The images are captured at the moment the shutter is released in such a way that post-processing requires very little time. This is important to me; afterimages correspond to concepts and ideas that are already incorporated into the photograph and do not emerge later on a screen."
